Am I required to have a video visit with my prescriber?

Video sessions are required in two cases:

  • If you live in a state that requires video-only prescriber sessions
  • If you insurance provider is in-network with Cerebral

In all other cases, you can choose to meet with your prescriber over video or phone call.


If I have severe generalized anxiety or panic disorder, will Cerebral prescribe Xanax (alprazolam) or Klonopin (Clonazepam)?

No. Cerebral does not prescribe controlled substances like Xanax (alprazolam) or Klonopin (Clonazepam) at this time.

We do prescribe non-controlled substances that can help reduce symptoms of severe anxiety or panic disorders — including Prozac (fluoxetine), Zoloft (sertraline) or Effexor (venlafaxine). We also often recommend behavioral therapy for people experiencing these conditions.

How much does medication cost when shipped through CerebralRx?

Medication shipped by CerebralRx costs up to 80% less than most retail pharmacies. Our prices are comparable to GoodRx and Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus pharmacy.

I use a local pharmacy to fill my prescriptions — how do I get them shipped to me by Cerebral instead?

You can ask your prescriber to change your pharmacy to CerebralRx next time you meet.

What is CerebralRx?

CerebralRx is our in-house pharmacy that can fill prescriptions for our medication clients.

Medication is shipped directly to your door with free expedited shipping, and can cost up to 80% less than the same medication at a retail pharmacy.

Can I use insurance to cover the cost of my medication?

If you get your medication shipped through CerebralRx, our pharmacy does not accept insurance to cover the cost of medication at this time. 

However, our medication can cost up to 80% less than national retail pharmacies, and you can use your HSA or FSA funds as your payment method to help cover the cost.

If you pick up your medication at a local pharmacy, you should contact your insurance provider to see what your plan covers and how to use it.

Is medication included in the subscription cost?

No.

If you get your medication shipped directly to you by Cerebral, the cost of medication will be billed (as a separate charge) to the primary payment method we have on file for you.
Free expedited shipping is included in your subscription.

If you pick up your medication from a local pharmacy, you will pay for your medication at the pharmacy when you pick it up.

If you use insurance, the cost of medication may be covered by your insurance plan. Contact your insurance provider to understand if and how the cost of medication may be covered. CerebralRx does not accept insurance.

You can also use HSA or FSA funds as your primary payment method or to pay for your medications at the pharmacy.


Who is eligible to use CerebralRx as their preferred pharmacy?

CerebralRx is not currently available to clients in California or North Carolina.

Any other client with a medication plan that includes a prescription can use CerebralRx as their preferred pharmacy and get free expedited shipping on all medications. 

Log into your account or talk to your prescriber about changing your preferred pharmacy to CerebralRx.


How soon can I see a medication prescriber?

Most new clients are able to meet with a prescriber within 5 days of signing up. 

If you’re already a client and need to meet with a prescriber before your next session — log into your account to schedule an earlier session, or send us a message if your prescriber doesn’t have any available.

Do I need an existing prescription to join Cerebral?

No, you don’t need an existing prescription to join Cerebral.
Our licensed prescribers will meet with you to give you a professional evaluation and diagnosis to determine if medication is clinically appropriate for you.

What are as-needed medications and how can I get them?

As-needed medications, or “pro re nata” (PRN) medications, are prescribed to be taken only when the symptoms they help manage are present — rather than on a regular schedule.

You can meet with a prescriber to discuss if these medications may be right for you.

Can Cerebral providers diagnose and prescribe medication for ADHD?

Yes. We can diagnose and offer non-stimulant treatment options for ADHD.

Cerebral does not prescribe stimulant medications at this time.

While stimulants are often prescribed as first-line treatment for ADHD, we do prescribe other medications that can be helpful for those experiencing ADHD symptoms, including Wellbutrin (bupropion) or Strattera (atomoxetine).

Are antidepressants safe to use?

Yes. The medications we prescribe for depression are very safe when used according to your prescription. 

Antidepressants are the most common medication prescribed for depression and are highly effective in reducing symptoms like anxiety, depression, and insomnia, typically with little to no side effects.

Although it’s unlikely, if you do experience side effects you are concerned about, let your prescriber know as soon as possible. They will help you transition to a new medication or stop medication altogether.

Stopping these medications suddenly or without consulting your prescriber first may result in withdrawals or other negative side effects.

We do not prescribe controlled substances of any kind, which can have more extreme side effects or cause addiction.

If I have ADHD, will Cerebral prescribe Adderall (amphetamine / dextroamphetamine) or Concerta (Methylphenidate)?

No, Cerebral does not prescribe stimulants such as Adderall (dextroamphetamine-amphetamine) or Concerta (Methylphenidate) at this time. 

While stimulants are often prescribed as first-line treatment for ADHD, we do prescribe other medications that can be helpful for those experiencing ADHD symptoms, including Wellbutrin (bupropion) or Strattera (atomoxetine).

Can Cerebral help me change or stop my medications?

Talk to your prescriber if you’re interested in trying a different medication or tapering off  medication altogether. 

If your prescriber determines that adjusting your medication is clinically appropriate, they can work with you to create a safe and effective plan for doing so.

Am I required to have a video visit with my prescriber?

In most cases, you will be given the option to select a video or phone call preference for all visits. Many states, however, require that patient's visits be conducted by video only. In this case you will not get the option to choose what type of visit you will have. For clients whose insurance carriers are in-network with Cerebral, the visit must also be conducted via video.
