Approach to Therapy

Dr. Santos is a client-centered therapist who uses a humanistic and existential theoretical approach to treatment. Dr. Santos engages patients in developing an array of skills stemming from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, and/or Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Dr. Santos maintains an individual approach to meet each person’s needs as he uses a collaborative approach where patients set their own goals. Dr. Santos is committed to the overall growth and well-being of each individual as he is appreciative of everyone's unique background and embraces diversity in each person. It is his goal to help, support, and encourage people from all walks of life to fulfill their own sense of meaning and purpose.

Experience

Dr. Santos completed his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in Neuropsychology in Miami, Florida at Carlos Albizu University in 2018 after attending a year-long internship in Health Psychology with the Baylor Scott and White Health System in Temple, Texas. Dr. Santos is an experienced Psychologist with a wide range of experience treating individuals with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, obsessions and compulsions, trauma, insomnia, grief and bereavement, substance use issues, relationship problems, and career challenges as well. Throughout his career, Dr. Santos has also focused on Health Psychology, providing psychotherapy to patients with long-term health and life-limiting conditions in Rehabilitation, Palliative, and Hospice care settings. As such, he has experience working with individuals with depression and anxiety due to difficulties adjusting and coping with congestive heart failure, cancer, traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, epilepsy, diabetes, large organ failure, chronic pain, and obesity.

Hobbies and Interests

Dr. Santos enjoys spending time outdoors with his golden retriever, Nala, as every day is enjoyed with walks to nearby parks and plenty of time to play fetch. He and his wife share interests in learning to cook traditional and fusion dishes and will often attend classes and seminars. Dr. Santos is a fan of all the local Florida sports teams from the Dolphins to the Heat, and enjoys playing basketball. Having grown up in the Nintendo and Sega boom, Dr. Santos enjoys the occasional video game from time to time.
