ABOUT Julie Markowitz

Julie Markowitz is an Associate Clinical Social Worker. She received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania graduating Summa Cum Laude. She also has an MBA from Columbia Business School and an MSW from New York University. She has training in Somatic Experiencing, Janina Fisher’s Structural Dissociation Model, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Polyvagal Informed Therapy, Non-Violent Communication, and Mindfulness. She specializes in the treatment of chronic pain and dissociative disorders. She believes that everyone has the innate ability to heal and that symptoms can be relieved through healing the nervous system. Julie has a particular passion for trauma-informed care and reducing the stigma around mental health care. In her free time, Julie enjoys playing the piano, singing, writing, being in nature, and working on her development as a person and a therapist.

No recovery from trauma is possible without attending to issues of safety, care for the self, reparative connections to other human beings, and a renewed faith in the universe. The therapist’s job is not just to witness to this process but to teach the patient how. —Janina Fisher
