ABOUT Carmalita Johnson

Carmalita Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), with the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Counselors. She has a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Her passion for helping others stem from witnessing the struggle of mental health up-close and personal. Carmalita’s method of counseling, for the most part, is an eclectic approach, because it draws upon multiple theoretical orientations and techniques to fit the client’s need(s). But in keeping close to her roots, her custom is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a great approach for depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and other mental health conditions. Carmalita believes that therapeutic alliance must be built through trust, and so she practices empathy and unconditional positive regard, which is the trademark for Person Centered Therapy. She has been afforded the opportunity to work within different settings, which includes individual, family, and group, while providing psychoeducation, coping skills, FFT services, substance abuse, and working effectively with cultural diversity within the therapeutic process. Since childhood, the seed of helping others were planted, initially aspiring to become a teacher. Now she combines teaching skills along with counseling to empower others. It is her goal to help continue the “#SpreadingHearts” movement, so that others can heal and share their heart, thereby paying-it-forward! During her free time, she loves being around family, walking, reading, and is a movie buff!
