For the last 20 years, Ms. Galvin has proudly chosen to serve her community as a family nurse practitioner in order to provide medical care to countless patients and their families. Woven amongst her most rewarding experiences over the past two decades, Ms. Galvin notes her proudest moments were spent serving as a medical provider to our country's finest young men and women as they prepared for their combat deployments during the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. These clinical experiences solidified Ms. Galvin's understanding of the importance of establishing a trusted provider/patient relationships in order to effectively treat traumatic wounds; most notably, post combat traumatic stress, alcohol and drug addiction, and the effects of traumatic brain injury. Since leaving her position as a civilian contractor, Ms. Galvin has elected to seek a post-master's psychiatric nurse practitioner certification in order to care for those who may be suffering from the debilitating effects of mental illness, paying close attention to those experiencing difficulty accessing care due to isolation and stigma.
Mental wellness is not a destination, but a process. It's about taking the first step towards fostering personal awareness of one's resilience and fortitude to tackle life's stressors. - Anonymous
