Marissa Cortes Mendez is a dually board-certified nurse practitioner and nurse-midwife. She started her career working as a labor and delivery nurse, then found her niche working with laboring women who struggled with substance abuse or who were challenged with severe anxiety or grief due to medically complicated pregnancies.
She then went on to receive a Masters in Science of Nursing, with a concentration in midwifery and family medicine. She has spent the last 5 years working with primarily Spanish-speaking, low-income communities providing primary care, urgent care, women’s health, prenatal care, and mental health services.
Working with patients from every age group and many different backgrounds has reinforced one central idea - everyone has mental or emotional struggles at one point or another. Providing gentle, individualized, and prompt mental health services is key to improving and maintaining the quality of their life.
In her free time, you’ll find her traveling, enjoying the colors of the New Mexican sky, or watching dog videos online and dreaming of her next four-legged companion.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it. - Helen Keller
