I am currently a board certified nurse practitioner practicing in the state of MO for the past 4.5years. I have had the pleasure of working as a hospitalist in an acute care setting for 13 months, as well as an outpatient setting specific to nursing homes, ALF, RCF, along with office visits since 2018. Bridging from a critical care RN to NP was challenging in the beginning of my career as roles and responsibilities change. Leadership has always been a love of mine, along with medicine. I am pursuing the Psych Mental Health NP program as a post master’s certificate to enhance my skills for geriatric and pediatric populations.
As an FNP I have been able to work in several areas, including geriatrics with a strong concentration in mental illness, but I am aware there is a higher knowledge base that I am interested in completing. I spent 5 years in critical care (ICU and ER) and thoroughly enjoyed all of these critical life changing experiences. In fact, I have stepped up during this pandemic to help RNs at the bedside in ICU due to the nursing shortage. I am still working my NP role during the week, but on the weekends, I work as an RN to fight this COVID nightmare. Colleagues look at me as I am crazy for managing dual roles, but I enjoy helping and honestly, I am still a nurse at heart, and I enjoy helping. I am thrilled to be part of Cerebral, as this will allow me to help improve mental illnessin an outpatient setting while improving healthcare outcomes.
Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience.
