Alicia Kohls is a board-certified nurse practitioner. After high school, she began working as a nursing assistant in nursing homes. After earning her Registered Nursing degree, she worked in acute care hospitals and outpatient clinics across the country. Throughout her career, she has worked in many diverse areas including Medical-Surgical Units, Emergency Medicine, Same-Day Surgery, and Acute and Chronic Dialysis. Additionally, she worked as a Group Home owner operator, and caretaker, where she specialized in serving men with developmental disabilities, mental health disorders, and substance abuse disorders. After earning a Master of Science in Nursing, she began her career in Acute Neurologic Rehabilitation, where she treats patients with mental health disorders, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and acute pain.
Her training, personal experiences, and professional experiences have inspired her to advocate for individuals with mental illness to have access to affordable, quality mental health care. She wishes to create a culture in which those suffering from mental health disorders are treated with the same respect, compassion, and awareness that is given to those suffering from appendicitis or broken bones.
During her free time, she enjoys playing with her four dogs, perfecting her family's favorite chicken biryani dish, gardening, or relaxing while watching a movie.
