ABOUT Sockna (Mommie) Cisse

Sockna Cissè holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Monmouth University. Growing up in a predominantly immigrant community, Sockna understands how the intersection of personal self-identities, unresolved trauma, and certain cultural/religious views and practices can impact mental health so greatly. Witnessing members of her community suffer in silence with untreated depression and anxiety, as well as the lack of quality mental health services in the community sparked Sockna’s interest in mental health and counseling at an early age. Sockna’s experience includes providing counseling to runaway LGBTQIA+ teens, homeless adult women, and older adults living with HIV. To achieve the best health outcomes for clients, she utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and many mental skills, including but not limited to positive self-talk, cognitive restructuring, and goal setting. Sockna has a passion for expanding quality, equitable, and identity-affirming mental health services for all. In her free time, she enjoys trying new, exciting recipes, re-watching ‘Living Single’, and watering her plants!
