ABOUT Melissa Ann Abellana

Melissa Abellana holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Hawaii. She was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii. Melissa has 17 years of social work experience with emphasis in the mental health of Hawaii’s diverse, multi-cultural individuals, minority groups and the local community.

Melissa is a subject matter expert in working with the child and family suffering from abuse and neglect, poverty and homelessness, including the challenges of military lifestyle for service members, veterans and their families. She has the knowledge of the client-centered approach, strength-based practice, motivational interviewing and psycho-educational counseling.

She is empathetic with the struggles of socioeconomic stress factors, managing trauma, balancing emotions and developing coping mechanisms that are realistic and adaptable to daily living in expensive Hawaii.

To maintain self-care (work, life, balance), in her free time, she enjoys quality time with the family, beach days (swimming, surfing, paddling) and binge watching new shows!
